World Suicide Prevention Day 2025
Today, 10 September 2025, marks World Suicide Prevention Day.
World Suicide Prevention Day, led by Samaritans and co-created with people who have lived experience of suicidal thoughts, is a day to share experiences and insights, either to interrupt someone else’s thoughts before it’s too late, or to support those struggling with suicidal thoughts.
Today, we’re sharing resources that look at prevention from a psychoanalytic perspective. This research looks to understand the state of mind that can lead to harmful thoughts, others look at the effectiveness of psychoanalytic therapy for reducing suicide.
We’re also sharing a policy update from Patrick Cusworth, the Head of Policy and Public Affairs at the BPC, who has written a piece discussing the policy landscape surrounding suicide prevention in the UK and the policy work the BPC continues to do around this important topic.
