Description

This one day event is held to celebrate the work of our dear colleague and friend, Gabriel Kirtchuk, reflecting his vibrant and generous personality.

Recognising the complexity and emotional impact faced by front line clinicians in forensic mental health services, Gabriel was passionate about utilising psychoanalytic principles and practices to support these colleagues. He creatively combined being a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and a Psychoanalyst with the BPAS.

His many innovations over the years included adapting Interpersonal Dynamics (ID) from the OPD tool as effective for clinical practice in these settings, developing a post graduate degree programme, embedding reflective practice for clinical teams and supporting ward community meetings. He pioneered the Forensic Psychotherapy Society, a BPC member organisation and was the National Lead for Forensic Psychotherapy Training and Development over many years. He was an active member of the IAFP since its inception in 1992.

The day will include a mix of tributes to Gabriel’s work through academic presentations and shared personal stories about working with Gabriel. Importantly, in the spirit of Gabriel’s great skill, the event aims to provide space and time for networking.
