Description
Psychoanalytic Contributions to Understanding of the Psychoses
A series of four seminars with Brian Martindale
This series of seminars will focus on the various forms of psychosis encountered in clinical practice in the National Health Service. It will take an individualised approach, considering the specific aspects of reality that a particular person cannot bear and the various psychological processes that transform and create a ‘new reality’ or ‘new realities’.
The seminars will bring plenty of ‘ordinary’ NHS examples and focus on the consequences and potential impact of psychotic processes on staff and carers, which have implications for the kind of care provided.
The final seminar will focus on psychotherapeutic work with a family over a two year period, illustrating the possibilities of integrating psychoanalytic perspectives into ‘ordinary’ mental health services.
