Description
Freud’s 4pm Session – Frau Professor: Introducing Martha Freud
Friday, 26th July – birthday anniversary of Martha Freud, Sigmund Freud’s wife
Join Freud Museum’s Education and Outreach Manager in celebrating the birthday anniversary of Freud’s wife, Martha Freud (née Bernays).
Often considered a mysterious figure remaining in the shadow of her famous husband of over fifty years, Mrs Freud became the subject of many fictionalised accounts and much speculation.
Drawing on historical material and testimonies, this talk will explore the life and personality of this remarkable woman, whose role in the development of psychoanalysis is difficult to overestimate. There will also be a rare opportunity to see some of Martha Freud’s belongings, photographs and collection objects not usually displayed at the Museum.
