Welcome to the British Psychoanalytic Council

The British Psychoanalytic Council is a professional association and voluntary regulator of the psychoanalytic psychotherapy profession, publishing a Register of practitioners who are required to follow our ethical code and meet our fitness to practise standards.

We promote excellence in psychoanalytic thinking and psychotherapy; safeguard the public; promote the highest standards of training and research; and work to make psychoanalytic psychotherapy accessible to all.

New Associations magazine is the place for news, analysis and opinion about the world of psychoanalytic psychotherapy. It covers cultural and academic work, as well as the practical issues we face in these uncertain times, but gives centre stage to our therapeutic mission. Its main focus is the role of psychoanalytically-oriented therapies in contemporary mental health and social care within the public, voluntary and independent sectors.

New Associations, published by the British Psychoanalytic Council, is central to the project of renewing and revitalising psychoanalytic and psychodynamic practice for the 21st century.
