For 100 years, the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust has been at the forefront of bringing new approaches to treating patients who are in mental distress. We are internationally recognised as an expert in the health, charity, voluntary and private sectors and are proud to have developed and delivered ground breaking mental health services that make a real difference to communities. Working with children and families and adults, our approach brings together psychoanalytic, psychodynamic and systemic theory and practice and other approaches and seeks to understand the unconscious as well as conscious aspects of a person’s experience.

Parallel to providing a wide range of clinical services, the Trust trains over 2,000 students each year through our established Directorate of Education and Training. Our students are based in London at the Tavistock Centre and across the UK and Europe with our carefully selected partners. Our relevant courses are accredited and recognised by the main professional bodies in the mental health sector, including the BPC. Our creative and skilled clinical staff also deliver our teaching so the education that our students receive is relevant and indicative of services and models of care which respond to contemporary challenges.

The Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists (TSP) is the professional body for psychotherapists who have trained at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust and the MI with the BPC: https://www.bpc.org.uk/about-us/member-institutions/38/
