This two year programme which has now been running since 2012, presents an opportunity for qualified psychotherapists/psychoanalysts to join the Fitzjohns Unit (Unit Head Dr David Bell). This is a specialist unit within the Adult service that provides psychoanalytic psychotherapy for patients with enduring mental health problems- these include patients suffering from borderline states and other personality disorders, manic-depressive disorder, and some selected patients who have suffered from psychosis. Patients are provided with twice weekly individual psychotherapy for two years and this is usually followed by a number of years in group psychotherapy.
Those accepted onto the course will provide psychotherapy for at least one patient (normally twice weekly), and attend weekly Fitzjohns Unit meetings. The work will be supervised by a senior member of the unit and course members will participate in the Fitzjohns weekly clinical workshop led by Mrs Edna O’Shaughnessy. There is also a regular theoretical seminar.
The programme lasts for two years and leads to a Tavistock diploma in Working with Personality Disorder, Severely Ill and Complex patients.
Course fee: £1500 per year
