Wessex Counselling & Psychotherapy, (WCP), is a not for profit organisation which formed in 1983 to offer professional and affordable psychodynamic counselling and psychotherapy in Frome, Bath, Bristol, Street and surrounding areas. Wessex Counselling and Psychotherapy provide counselling and psychotherapy training.
Our counselling service is accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). All our counsellors adhere to the BACP’s Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions and the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) Code of Ethics. We are also a member of the National Counselling Network.

We currently have a vacancy for theory seminar leader on the Intensive Foundation Certificate in Psychodynamic Skills and Attitudes starting in January 2022. This is an exciting opportunity to join the established teaching staff of Wessex Counselling and Psychotherapy. The applicant must be a qualified and experienced counsellor/psychotherapist with an analytical approach. He/she must be registered with BPC as a psychodynamic counsellor or psychotherapist, a BACP accredited member (MBACP Accred) or UKCP (CPJA) member. The ideal person will have experience in teaching or training adults.
WCP runs two Foundation Certificates in Psychodynamic Skills and Attitudes Courses and one Intensive Foundation Certificate in Psychodynamic Skills and Attitudes per academic year. Each course day includes a theory seminar, counselling skills practice and an experiential group.
Students on the Intensive Foundation Certificate are also expected to attend a compulsory Saturday workshop on groups and have two personal tutorials.
This course introduces students to the skills required in counselling and the theory that underpins the psychodynamic way of working. The course is for anyone who is interested in counselling and/or psychodynamic psychotherapy who feel they would benefit; for self-development, for personal development allied to their current work or for those who wish to go onto further training.
Contact hours: 2 hour session per course day. The course runs over 16 days delivered over 4 weekends and two 4 day weeks between January 2022-June 2022.
Rate of Pay: £35.70 per hour, plus £20 allowance for attendance at Training Committee and annual External Examiner Meetings.
Weekend 1: 22nd & 23rd January
4 day week: 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th February (1/2 term week for most schools)
Weekend 2: 26th & 27th March
4 day week: 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd April (Easter Holiday)
Weekend 3: 21st & 22nd May
Weekend 4: 18th & 19th June.
