BPC Registrant Hearing Panellists and Screening Committee members

We are introducing a new Fitness to Practise procedure as of January 2022 and we are looking to appoint Registrant members to our Screening Committee and Hearing Panel.

The Screening Committee, consisting of lay and Registrant members, considers around 6-10 cases per year and sits virtually in the evenings, as and when required. The Hearing Panel, sitting as a mixture of lay and Registrant members assisted by a Legal Adviser, may consider up to 4 cases per year and Hearings last between 1 and 3 days in duration. Please note that Training will be provided for both roles.

Screening Committee

We are looking to appoint three Registrant panel members to our Screening Committee. Members of the Screening Committee are expected to read papers in advance of meetings, actively contribute to discussions with the Chair and lay members of the Committee and determine how best to dispose of the complaint. Whilst responsibility for writing the decision ultimately lies with the Chair of the Committee, all Screening Committee members are required to review the decision and contribute accordingly. This is a voluntary position.

Hearing Panellists

We are looking to appoint Registrant panel members to our Hearing Panel. Hearing Panellists are expected to read and assimilate information in advance of a meeting, exercise judgement when assessing information, work well with others and communicate effectively.

The role of a Hearing Panellist is a voluntary position although all reasonable expenses for attending in-person Hearings will be paid. Currently, Hearings are being held virtually however if held in person, they would take place in London.

Applications for both positions are by way of CV and a short statement of no more than 300 words setting out your reasons for applying and why you feel you would be suitable for the position. Please send your application to the Head of Regulation, Nicola Wheater.

Within your statement, please indicate whether you are interested in applying for the role of a Hearing Panellist, Screening Committee member or either.

Closing date for applications is 15 November 2021.
