NICE Postpones Publication of Guidelines on Depression in Adults

NICE has agreed to postpone the publication of their draft guidance on adult depression to February 2020 and have also added a new consultation period prior to that date. The BPC, as part of a broad stakeholder coalition, has been supporting the call for NICE to develop its new guidelines on the management of depression in adults taking into account ‘parity of esteem’, long-term outcomes and important aspects of patients’ experience, such as quality of life and wellbeing. We continue to advocate that it is crucial that patient choice is not just maintained, but that it is expanded and that the right treatment is received at the right time if services on offer are to become more responsive and more effective.
