The BPC is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) under its Accredited Voluntray Register programme.
The Accredited Registers programme was set up by the Government and sets out various standards applicable to organisations that deal with occupations that are not statutorily regulated. In order to use the PSA accreditation mark, organisations that hold voluntary registers must prove that they meet these standards. The standards fall into the following areas:
- Setting standards for registrants
- Education and training
- Managing the register
- Providing information
- Handling complaints.
PSA accreditation offers enhanced protection to anyone looking for a psychotherapist or counsellor – people now have the option of seeking practitioners on a register that has been vetted and approved. Being on the PSA register also demonstrates how committed the BPC is to high professional standards, to enhancing client safety and to delivering a better service.
