Rou-Ting Yin
Child, Young Person and Family Psychodynamic Psychotherapist
About Rou-Ting Yin
**About me**
I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist specializing in working with children, young people (ages 5- 25 years) and their families. Trained at the Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation, I have experience in mainstream and special schools as well as NHS settings. I provide therapy in English and Mandarin Chinese and I am DBS checked.
As a psychodynamic psychotherapist, I focus on understanding how past experiences, relationships, and unconscious patterns shape current emotions and behaviours. Therapy offers a safe space to explore these connections, helping children and young people understand their feelings, build resilience, and develop healthier relationships.
**Areas of Specialism**
I am passionate in supporting children and young people as they navigate relationships, life transitions and cultural challenges. I have experience helping children navigate:
• Adjusting to a new environments (e.g. moving to a new country or starting a new school)
• Parental separation
• Bereavement and loss
• Anxiety
• Low mood and depression
• Low self-esteem
I also work with children and young people with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) and learning disability, helping them express their emotions, regulate feelings, and develop social skills.
**Therapeutic Approach**
I provide a safe and non-judgmental space where children and young people can express themselves through art, play, or talking. My approach is tailored to each individual’s needs, focusing on:
• Developing self-awareness and emotional understanding
• Making sense of past experiences and coping in healthier ways
• Recognizing links between feelings and behaviours for better self-regulation
• Building confidence, self-esteem and relationship skills
With younger children, I often use play, drawing, and role-playing. For teenagers and young adults, therapy may include open conversations, creative activities, explore dreams and reflective discussions. I may also suggest parents attend separate sessions to support their child’s progress. These sessions aim to offer support not to critique parenting skills.
**Sessions and Contact**
I offer both face-to-face and online sessions, typically once a week for 50 minutes.
Therapy begins with an initial assessment (3-4 sessions) to understand you or your child’s needs and challenges. Sessions are tailored to their unique experiences, with regular progress reviews.
If you’ve noticed your child feeling withdrawn, anxious, struggling with friendships, or overwhelmed by changes, therapy can offer a safe space to explore their feelings. Taking the first step towards therapy can feel daunting, but you don’t have to go through this alone. If you’d like to explore how therapy might support you or your child, I’d be happy to discuss and see how we can work together. Please feel free to get in touch.
