About Suzie Quartermaine

BA (Hons), PGDip, BPC, BPC accd.

I am a trained Adult Psychodynamic Psychotherapist with a highly specialised training in work with couples.

How do I work?
I meet with individuals (50 minutes) and couples (60 minutes) on the same day, at the same time, every week. During this time we will explore what is being experienced by the individual and couple and try to make sense of it together. The work sometimes involves exploring family upbringing and past relationships but may also be more focused on the here and now.

What is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy?
Psychodynamic psychotherapy (sometimes known as psychoanalytic psychotherapy) primarily focuses on the role of the unconscious and how our past experiences may impact the way we understand ourselves, and others, in the present. We may find ourselves following the same destructive patterns in our familial, romantic or professional relationships and not understand why. Perhaps we feel intensely lonely or misunderstood by those around us or have a feeling of being at odds with ourselves in day to day life. We may find ourselves in a relationship which feels emotionally dangerous or where communication has completely broken down. The objective of psychodynamic psychotherapy is to enhance self-awareness and to enable an individual, or couple, to have a greater understanding of why they behave the way they do, and therefore, feel more able to make positive changes in their lives.

Training:
I am a trained Adult Psychodynamic Psychotherapist, specialising in work with couples. I have completed introductory training in counselling skills at WPF and The Tavistock and Portman where I continued my training in Foundations of Psychodynamic Theory and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy with Couples. I have worked as an Honorary Psychodynamic Psychotherapist with individuals and couples with complex needs on the NHS since 2016.

I am a member of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists (TSP). I abide by their code of ethics.

Fees:
I am happy to discuss these when you contact me, but fees usually start at £90 for individuals and £120 for couples. Concessionary rates will be considered on a case by case basis.
