About Martin Watson

About me and my therapy practice

Life can be a testing and stressful experience. At times of heightened anxiety and uncertainty you may be asking an important question. Can counselling help me? Perhaps you are reading this today because you want a better relationship with your partner or children or want to relieve the pain of a bereavement, anxiety or depression. You might find yourself thinking “I could use some help with my anger”, “I’ve been feeling low like this for too long now, “I wish I could stop feeling anxious” or “Will I ever get over this?”. There are many other questions you may also be asking yourself and if any of those I have mentioned seem to fit then the answer to your important question maybe yes. Counselling might really help.

At the beginning the thought of counselling may feel daunting but you are not alone. After experiencing the therapeutic relationship people often report feeling calmer and less stressed, that sleep has improved, that communication has improved and hence relationships are better. Some have learnt to say no, are kinder to themselves, have a better relationship with food and are laughing more often. This isn’t a guarantee but a rough guide of what we may be working towards together. It is a journey and one I would be happy to accompany you with.

Practice description

I am a fully qualified BPC accredited psychodynamic counsellor/therapist offering individual therapy to adults. I am able to offer quick access to time-limited or long-term, open-ended counselling. I work both face to face from my consulting rooms as part of the Aashna group practice in North London and online using video on Zoom as well as by telephone.

My first session

A first session can be a very anxiety provoking experience with many uncertainties and unknown details. The session will be an assessment of 50 minutes during which we can meet each other and begin to think about what may bring you to counselling. I will outline my approach, speak to the practical parts of counselling and ask some questions to help us begin. If you have any questions we will address these and start to think about open-ended therapy and meeting regularly. My fee for the assessment is £50.
