This talk will provide the opportunity to explore a range of issues about working with prescribed psychiatric drugs with the lead editor of the recently published Guidance for Psychological Therapists: Enabling conversations with clients taking or withdrawing from prescribed psychiatric drugs. Topics to be explored will include:
• how, when and if to raise questions about prescribed psychiatric drugs with clients
• how dependence on psychiatric drugs can be present in client work
• how to recognise withdrawal and to distinguish this from a previous problem reoccurring / relapse
• any concerns about the role of the therapist in relation to such drugs
There will also be ample opportunity to ask questions about putting this knowledge into practice in order to enable more confident working with this subject.

About the presenter
Dr Anne Guy, UKCP (Reg), MBACP (Accred) is a psychotherapist currently in private practice, having previously worked as lecturer at the University of Roehampton. She is a member of the Council for Evidence-Based Psychiatry and the secretariat co-ordinator for the APPG for Prescribed Drug Dependence.
She is lead editor and Steering Group Chair for the “Guidance for Psychological Therapists: Enabling Conversations with Clients Taking or Withdrawing from Psychiatric Drugs” created in collaboration with leading UK therapy organisations and academics.
She has co-authored two reports for the APPG; one analysing the systemic issues underlying patient experiences of prescribed drug dependence & the other describing four current service models for supporting prescribed drug dependence in the UK.
Prior to training as a therapist, she worked as a senior manager in financial services with a focus on process design and improvement.
