Description
Modern psychoanalytic perspectives on over-eating , being ‘big’ and bullying
Overeating and weight gain have been on the rise for several years in many Western countries. Yet surprisingly little has been written about this subject in contrast to pervasive thinness. This presentation/ workshop will consider the many causative factors that lead to and sustain fatness. The ideas of Hilde Bruch and Anna Freud, and more contemporary clinicians will be outlined, as well as the author’s own concepts formulated on the basis of her long-standing experience as a clinical psychologist and a child, adolescent and adult psychoanalyst. Examples drawn from clinical practice, literature and film will be discussed.
