Description

Inspired by the centenary of the publication of Freud’s “Beyond the Pleasure Principle” which introduced the idea of the “compulsion to repeat”, this conference (postponed from Autumn 2020 due to Covid-19) revisits ‘Action’ and its connection -or disconnection- to the Mind. The speakers will explore a variety of clinical experiences, where Action -and not exclusively acting out- is paramount. Action and its relation to and the movement toward representation and thinking will be examined in psychoanalytic work with adults and children.

In each of three moderated panels, two speakers will present their clinical work and theoretical ideas followed by a dialogue with each other and with the audience. There will be an open final plenary exchange between the speakers and the audience. A recording will be available after the event.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: The English Speaking Weekend Conference is open to members and candidates of the International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA) and its component societies, and also to members of the British Psychoanalytic Association (BPA) and of the European Psychoanalytic Federation (EPF)

Psychoanalysts and psychoanalytic psychotherapists, who are not IPA members may register if supported by an IPA member. A brief supporting letter from the IPA member should be sent to outreach@iopa.org.uk before registering for the conference.
