The Melanie Klein Trust
Join us for the first in a new series of online events at which Ignês Sodré will talk about her book “Imaginary Existences: A psychoanalytic exploration of phantasy, fiction, dreams and daydreams” with psychoanalyst Priscilla Roth.
In the book, Sodré interweaves psychoanalytic theory and extensive clinical experience with insights derived from close readings of great literature. The discussion will explore how psychoanalysis and literary criticism organically relate to each other, and how a psychoanalytic lens can bring new perspectives on characters created by authors such as George Eliot, Cervantes, Flaubert and Shakespeare.
Ignês Sodré is a training and supervising psychoanalyst with the British Psychoanalytical Society. Her well-loved writings include numerous papers and two books: Imaginary Existences (Routledge, 2015), and, with AS Byatt, Imagining Characters: Six Conversations About Women Writers (Chatto and Windus, 1995).
Priscilla Roth is a training and supervising psychoanalyst with the British Psychoanalytical Society. As well as publishing papers and book chapters on key analytic topics, she has edited several books including Imaginary Existences, for which she also wrote the introduction.
The event will be chaired by psychoanalyst Susan Lawrence.
A few days after the event all attendees will receive a link to a recording of the webinar, which will be available to view for one month, and a discount code for 25% off the the book price.
