This one one-day BPC conference is tailored for trainees and recent graduates of psychoanalytically orientated trainings. The day will bring together some of the most experienced and distinguished clinicians with those at much earlier stages of their careers to explore the fears, hopes and aspirations people often have when starting out as a therapist. Our conference will offer a space to think about the internal and external challenges involved in embarking on an analytic career. It will offer reflections and suggestions on psychological and practical aspects of forging your own path, be that in the NHS, third sector organisations, private practice or a blend of different roles. The day will end with an informal drinks reception to give you time to meet fellow participants including, trainees, recent graduates and BPC staff and Trustees.

The event will start at 09.30 on Saturday 28 March with a welcome from the BPC and conference Chair, Susanne Abse

We will hear from Gary Fereday, Chief Executive, BPC followed by conversation between Rose Segal and Professor Brett Kahr

The event will have workshops in the morning and afternoon, delegates will select one workshop in the mornng and one in the afternoon, two workshops to attend in total for the day.

  • The early years: developing your psychological readiness

  • Building your private practice: practical steps to help navigate the first years

  • CPD and your early professional development

  • Lee Smith

The final session of the day will focus on the exciting launch of the BPC Trainee Membership Catergory with Rachel Dunkley Jones,  Chair of Trainees Advisory Committee and Gary Fereday
