Catalyst Counselling
CATALYST TRAINING PROGRAMME
• 12 hour - Introduction to Counselling Skills Course
• 1 Year - Certificate in Psychodynamic Counselling Skills
• 3 Years – Clinical Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling
At Catalyst, we believe that learning to become a psychodynamic / psychoanalytic counsellor is a developmental process. Trainees need to learn fundamentals first, on which they can build more sophisticated skills.
Our training programme and structure conceptualises psychotherapeutic technique as based on common factors that all psychotherapeutic practices share and are correlated with good outcomes. These are core concepts and techniques, such as building a therapeutic alliance, listening empathically and setting the frame and boundaries, which need to be learned before more specific psychodynamic technique and understanding can be learnt and developed.
Catalyst’s Psychodynamic Counsellor training programme meets the SCOPED framework for core competencies in counselling & psychotherapy training agreed by the key partnership organisations in the UK known as the Partnership of Counselling and Psychotherapy Bodies (PCPB).
Successful completion of the Clinical Diploma leads to BPC registration and accreditation as a Psychodynamic Counsellor (Column C, in the SCOPED Framework).
Understanding the similarities and differences between counselling approaches is also something Catalyst sees as important so that trainees understand how and when to recommend different types of therapy to achieve the best outcomes for different types of clients or patients.
Catalyst is a complete and supportive training pathway which means we provide everything you need in one place – expert teaching, clinical placements (within our Community Counselling Service), supervision and ongoing support. We do not require you to go elsewhere to find a clinical placement for completion of the required clinical practice hours to graduate (150 hours).
Training Staff have a wide range of knowledge and experience to bring to the training situation based on many years of practice working across a wide range of different and patient groups and cultures.
CATALYST was originally established as Waveney Counselling Service (WCS), a charity in 1990.
We have a widely respected reputation in the local community and were an accredited affiliate of WPF Therapy (formerly Westminster Pastoral Foundation Network) until the network closed in 2013.
We are a not for profit social enterprise offering high quality counselling & psychoanalytic training to the communities of Norfolk & Suffolk.
